The Institute

Each session of The LeaderShape® Institute consists of approximately 60 men and women representing diverse ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds. Everyone is a teacher and everyone is a learner because LeaderShape utilizes highly interactive program methods rather than classroom lectures.

It is open to all students except graduating seniors. The completely free registration is on a first-come-first-serve basis, and includes all transportation, food, lodging, and program costs. Please stay tuned for more information leading up to the event as we release more details.

Learning Communities and Family Clusters

The majority of work is done in a large group called the learning community. From this larger group, smaller groups called family clusters are formed, wherein participants work on their vision statements.

The term "family" is not hyperbolic. Participants work closely together and quickly form meaningful friendships. The family cluster provides a supportive, safe environment that promotes learning and the development of new skills and attitudes.

The Team Challenge Course

Another unique feature of The Institute is the Team Challenge Course. This half-day, outdoor, team-building experience teaches the concepts of trust, communication and group problem-solving.

Hands-On Learning

The Institute's hands-on, multidimensional curriculum is presented by a group of facilitators who volunteer to for a week of helping develop leaders. While each of them has experience working with young adults, they are all highly respected in their own professions and serve as excellent leadership role models for the students.

In addition, prominent guest leaders from the government and the non-profit sector spend an evening with participants discussing the tough issues that leaders face on a daily basis.

A Special Thank You

We would like to thank all of the support from our Institute faculty. Individuals join our team from Student Life, Academic Advising and Planning, Residence Life, Greek Life, and our own Leadership Center. This program would not be possible without the passion and dedication of these individuals.
